Track(s) |
Cloud |
Trainer/Speaker | |
Abstract |
In this daylong session, we’ll review all the various infrastructure components that make up the Microsoft Azure platform. When it comes to moving SQL Server systems into the Azure platform having a solid understanding of the Azure infrastructure will make migrations successful and making support solutions much easier. Designing your Azure infrastructure properly from the beginning is extremely important. An improperly designed and configured infrastructure will provide performance problems, manageability problems, and can be difficult to resolve without downtime. With the introduction of multiple Azure data centers now available in India, many companies will begin moving services from data centers into the Azure and a solid foundation is a key to successful migrations. |

Trainer/Speaker | |
Abstract |
The cloud has given us many opportunities to improve our data platform systems. However, the way we build solutions for the cloud and how we get the most out of it means we need to evolve how we approach it. Understanding the limitations of the different options for Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, or Azure VMs will help us understand how to architect solutions. We will look at how to design our infrastructure, where to place our applications as well as how we should be building our applications to get the most out of cloud data platforms. |

Abstract |
Databricks is a very popular environment for developing data science solutions. More and more companies are interested in Databricks as it is very simple to set up and contains a collaborative workspace for working with a team of people. In this session you will see how to create Machine Learning Solutions with multiple workflows starting with ETL, to data exploration, model experimentation, and lastly to a production release of a data science solution. Today, more and more development is performed on very large datasets. Attendees will learn how to use Apache Spark, which is part of Databricks, to rapidly analyze lots of data. Learn how to use Databricks to reduces operational complexity to create solutions which can be scaled up or down depending on the amount of data needed to process without having to change the underlying code. Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and Apache Spark are the technologies used to create solutions within this session. No experience is required with these technologies, as all topics will be introduced as they are the tools needed to create data science solutions. The step-by-step demos will provide all you need to know to implement Databricks. |

Pre-Con Title |
Back to The Future: Modernizing Your ETL Solution in The Cloud with SSIS in Azure Data Factory |
Track(s) |
Business Intelligence & Advanced Analytics |
Trainer/Speaker | |
Abstract |
This session focuses on the deeper integration of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) in Azure Data Factory (ADF) and the broad extensibility of Azure-SSIS Integration Runtime (IR) that will allow you to lift & shift/modernize/upgrade your ETL solution in the cloud. We will first show you how to provision Azure-SSIS IR – dedicated ADF servers for lifting & shifting SSIS workloads – with your SSIS projects/packages stored in SSIS catalog (SSISDB) hosted by Azure SQL Database server/Managed Instance or in local file shares/Azure Files and extend it with custom/Open Source/3rd party components. We will also show you how to configure Azure-SSIS IR to access data on premises using Windows authentication, Virtual Network (VNet) injection, Self-Hosted IR as proxy, etc. Preserving your skillsets, you can then use the familiar SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT)/SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to design/deploy/configure/execute/monitor your SSIS packages in the cloud just like you do on premises. Next, we will guide you to modernize your ETL workflows by invoking/scheduling SSIS package executions as first-class activities in ADF pipelines and combining/chaining them with other activities, allowing you to leverage ADF connectivity (+80 connectors), store secrets in Azure Key Vault (AKV), connect using Azure Active Directory (AAD) authentication with ADF managed identity, automatically provision Azure-SSIS IR on demand/just in time, trigger jobs/runs by file arrivals/deletions, splice built-in/custom/Open Source/3rd party data transformations, such as Power Query Source, Data Quality (Matching/Cleansing) components, etc. And finally, you will learn about the licensing model for ISVs to develop their paid/premium SSIS components/extensions and join the growing 3rd party ecosystem for SSIS in ADF. |
